Life of Brian was banned in Norway and Ireland due to the blasphemous message about religion and many religious groups took offense to the satire created with their religion as the end of the joke.

Banned in Several Countries

Due to it's offensive jokes at the expense of religious groups, several countries banned Life of Brian on the first year of it's release. The list of countries include: Ireland (ban lifted in 1987), Norway (ban lifted in 1980), Malaysia, Singapore, and South Africa. The reason behind the ban in all these countries is for "blasphemous content" and the offensive nature of the jokes. This movie also caused a huge uproar in the UK, but sadly, like other religiously-aimed movies, the protesters didn't have the affect they wanted and the movie continued to gain popularity.

Book of Mormon

The same kind of backlash was seen when the hit Broadway musical, Book of Mormon. The musical takes on a very satirical approach on the religion of Mormonism, which people did not find as humorous as the creators aimed for it to be. Although people did protest it's popularity, the show continues to run with loving fans and those who oppose continue to be talked over.
